Food4Thought Program

A partnership with Immanuel Presbyterian Church in McLean, VA

Did You Know?

A recent study by Feeding America shows that approximately 67,000 people in Fairfax County are "food insecure”?  Food insecurity simply means that these people do not know where their next meal is coming from.  We can all probably think of at least one person in our community that is experiencing food insecurity.

Educators and child health experts know that when children have access to regular healthy meals, they are healthier, perform better in school and have fewer behavioral issues. The effects of persistent hunger can follow them for the rest of their lives.

Partnering to Make a Difference!

Westlawn is excited that Immanuel Presbyterian Church in McLean will be our partner to start a small weekend food program called "Food4Thought". Food4Thought is designed to ensure that children are able to eat regular healthy meals over the weekend when they cannot access meals at school.  Westlawn also receives support and technical assistance from Britepaths (formerly Our Daily Bread) a dedicated leader in developing sustainable solutions that stabilize low-income working families. Through our partnership with Britepaths, we are participating in the Food4Thought program to fight child hunger in Fairfax County. Additionally, Elks of Arlington-Fairfax also provides monthly snack packs for students.
