School Innovation and Improvement Plan at a Glance
2022-2023 | Westlawn Elementary | Region 2 | Christoph Hill, Principal
Language Arts: By the end of the 2022-2023 school year, all students will meet their growth target as measured by PALS (K), iReady Reading (1-6).
Strategy 1: Teachers will develop oral language skills through explicit language instruction and opportunities for talk in both the reading and writing block.
Strategy 2: Teachers will increase time dedicated to foundational skills instruction and practice (print concepts, phonological awareness, phonics, word recognition, and fluency) in the core language arts block.
Strategy 3: Teachers will implement protocols to meet the individual academic needs of students identified as tier 2 and tier 3.
Mathematics: By the end of the 2022-2023 school year, all students will meet their growth target as measured by EMAS (K), iReady Math (1-6).
Strategy 1: Teachers will increase opportunities for students to compare different mathematical representations and use them to make connections to key mathematical concepts.
Strategy 2: Teachers will provide time within each math lesson for reflection and closure, allowing students to deepen mathematical understanding and language.
Strategy 3: Teachers will implement protocols to meet the individual academic needs of students identified as tier 2 and tier 3.
Wellness: By the conclusion of the 2022-2023 school year, Westlawn will utilize Morning Meeting and Closing Circle to foster relationships and teach responsible decision making skills. Schoolwide scores for responsible decision making on the SEL screener will increase by 10%.
Strategy 1: Ensure time for engagement of required tier 1 practices schoolwide.
Strategy 2: Develop adults’ foundational knowledge regarding the rationale for required practices and tools to support their implementation.
Strategy 3: Model required practices in family engagement meetings/activities to foster relationships, shared beliefs, and learning. Provide targeted or intensive interventions for students to support needs at tier 2/3.
Portrait of a Graduate: By the end of SY 2022-23, 100% of students in grades 5-6 will show growth as Creative and Critical Thinkers on POG self-reflections scored with the reflection on POG skill use rubric given at the beginning and end of the year.
Strategy 1: Collaborative teams will align content knowledge and skills with POG attributes and skills.
Strategy 2: Teachers will provide monthly opportunities for students to reflect on the POG attributes and skills using a variety of different structures (written, oral, individual, partners, etc.).
