Westlawn's Super Kindness Challenge went from the school's Morning News show to NBC News Channel 4 in only a week!  Super powers are newsworthy.

"Good morning Westlawn!  It is I, Super Woodward, and I am here to tell you about a SUPER challenge! For the next few weeks, I need your help!! I am looking for kindness superheroes!"  Mrs. Woodward asked students to practice their kindness super powers and the response has been overwhelmingly.

Students practice kindness in the cafeteria, in the classroom, in the hallway, in the bathroom and on the playground.  Students have nominated each other for encouraging words, lending a helping hand, sharing and inviting others to join their group.  One Kindergarten student nominated a friend who helped him when his clothes became caught on a tree.

How does the Super Kindness Challenge work?  Every time a student does something kind, a student or teacher can fill out a Nomination Form recognizing the kind act.  The nomination forms are then displayed in the cafeteria for all to see.  Each week, nominated students and staff have their names announced on Westlawn's Morning News.  Every nominated student receives official super hero attire:  a colorful cape and mask!  Thanks to the generosity of Omega Psi Phi and NBC4, student super heroes also receive tools to promote super learning:  a notebook, crayons, and markers!

Thank you to the Westlawn families and PTA who got up extra early on Thursday, March 15th to make a 5:30 AM taping of the NBC4 news segment happen.  We appreciate your sacrifice!  Thank you, also, to the wonderful NBC4 news crew who gave Westlawn students the opportunity to share their kindness super powers with NBC4 viewers!
