Family Learning Center
The Family Learning Center at Westlawn is a buzzing hub of family activity. Hilda Reyes is our Family Center coordinator. Some of the events you may see happening at Westlawn and with parents around the school are:
- Parent Leadership Involvement Training
- Volunteering throughout our school in such ways as assisting our teachers with Wednesday Folders and classroom events, assisting our front office with clerical responsibilities like copying flyers and laminating, as well as mentoring opportunities with our students
- Helping in the cafeteria
- Volunteering in the library
- English classes, school-based vocabulary (how to have a productive parent/ teacher conference, how to use the absentee call line etc.), and conversational English
- HIPPY , Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters
- Early Literacy Classes (Spanish)
- Family Literacy evening classes (English)
- Dad's Parenting Group
- Guests from the community- Fire Fighters and the Fairfax County Police
