We are pleased to welcome Mrs. Choate to Westlawn! She will be taking over the role of Principal while Mr. Hill is at home with his expanding family. Mrs. Choate has 38 years of experience as an educator, including as a former principal of Glen Forest Elementary School. In fact, she was his principal when he was at Glen Forest as an instructional coach and later an assistant principal. We love having Cindi Choate with us at Westlawn Elementary School! Let’s learn more about her…
Why are you excited to be at Westlawn? I am excited about being a part of a vibrant and diverse community and assisting the staff while Mr. Hill has the opportunity to be at home with his family.
What media are you currently consuming? I am an avid reader and finish about 2-3 books a week, although that number might drop slightly while I am here at Westlawn and able to participate in the life of the community. I just finished reading A World of Curiosities by Louise Penny, The Lincoln Highway: A Novel by Amor Towles, and The Dressmakers of Auschwitz: The True Story of the Women Who Sewed to Survive by Lucy Adlington. I am currently reading American Prison: A Reporter’s Undercover Journey into the Business of Punishment by Shane Bauer. I am in several book clubs, and one of my favorite things to do after finishing a book is doing some research into it to find out other ways in which it connects to the world. I also enjoy watching the movies that are based on the books I read and discussing them with my book clubs.
Besides reading, I am also a big fan of Netflix. I love Korean dramas, especially watching them in Korean with English subtitles. Like with reading books, I also enjoy researching the ways in which the dramas have connections to the world. I love being a learner!
What are your hobbies and interests? I enjoy spending time visiting my four sons. We all love sports of all kinds! Just last week we went to a Capitals hockey game. I also enjoy training my rescue German Shepherd, Kobe. My husband and I also recently finished construction on a small cabin on the side of a lake in rural Maine, where we like to go for a little escape.
On January 19, 2023, Mrs. Choate was interviewed on our news show, WES TV. Check it out!
