Westlawn Debuts New Cafeteria Expectations
Westlawn staff members worked collaboratively during Preservice Week to craft a new set of expectations for behavior among Westlawn students in the cafeteria. The collaboration was led by Westlawn coaches with a goal of developing a set of expectations that are developmentally appropriate for all students from kindergarten through sixth grade. The expectations also align with the Westlawn expectations developed by staff at the start of the 2022-2023 school year.
The cafeteria expectations and strategies are as follows:
We will be kind to ourselves so we can be kind to one-another.
- Eat your own food.
- Raise your hand if you need anything.
- Wait patiently in line with your hands and feet to yourself.
We will expect a positive and collaborative community that supports each other and learns together.
- Come with only lunch materials that are needed.
- Chat with a classmate at your table in a calm/quiet voice.
- Listen for the signal to line up.
We will maintain a safe and clean environment that is nurturing and conducive to learning.
- Arrive/leave on time.
- Calmly walk.
- Stay in your seat.
- Clean up after yourself (check table/floor).
- Wait patiently for the trash bins to come to you.
- Place trash in the bin.
- Teacher-assigned student/s will wash and sweep prior to dismissal.
We look forward to making our cafeteria a positive place in our school, and will be using these shared expectations to create the environment we need to support our students. Signs with the expectations were printed and hung in the cafeteria:
Prior to going through the salad bar, students use hand sanitizer to reduce the spread of germs:
Students sit at the cafeteria table and demonstrate how to talk quietly to a friend at the table:
Watch students demonstrate how to walk calmly and in a line in the cafeteria.
