The Westlawn Guide to that New Literacy “Stuff”
Literacy looks a bit different at Westlawn this year due to the advent of the Virginia Literacy Act, which has caused changes to Westlawn’s literacy curriculum, assessment, and instruction for students found at risk. In our Community Conversation on September 25, reading coach Ms. Katie Baer shared information about the Benchmark curriculum, the Virginia Language and Literacy Screening System (VALLSS), and the individualized reading plans that teachers will create based on the data from both VALLSS and the reading iReady. The entire Community Conversation is below and Ms. Baer shares information from 11:07 to 20:49, with translations provided by Ms. Escalante. Continue scrolling below the video to see the links that Ms. Baer references at the 18:10 mark.
